AirLoc Glossary: Natural frequency, excitation frequency

Each body has a natural frequency. This means that if it is excited by an external impact, it os-cillates in its own frequency.

Frequency as defined here is the number of vibrations in a given time period. The symbol of the frequency is f and the unit is 1/s. Let us make an example with our anti vibration pads BiLoc B2. If the isolation pads swings in the vertical direction with a natural frequency of 14 Hz (at optimum load), it oscillates 14 times per second. This property is important when it comes to the isolation of a machine. Suppose a compressor running at 1200 revolutions per minute, that corresponds to an excitation frequency of the compressor of 20 Hz. If the compressor is now placed on the anti vibration pad BiLoc B2, the natural frequency of the isolation pads is below the excitation frequency of the compressor. One speaks of a low tuned isolation in which vibration isolation takes place.
